Renee Baio Tweets That She Has Been Diagnosed With Brain Disease
The actress and stuntwoman has battled two brain tumors that were diagnosed in 2015.
One month after two former co-stars accused her husband of sexual misconduct on the set of his 1984-1990 show Charles in Charge, Renee Baio has tweeted that she has been diagnosed with microvascular brain disease. The actress and stuntwoman has battled two brain tumors that were diagnosed in 2015.
After a Twitter user asked her about her health on Saturday, Renee tweeted in response, "Besides having 2 meningioma brain tumors, in Oct 2017 I also learned I have Microvascular Brain Disease."
Husband Scott Baio added in his own tweet, "Unfortunately, this is true. Renee is forever my rock, my life & my soulmate! Toughest person I know."
Microvascular brain disease, or chronic small vessel ischemic disease, is a common condition affecting small blood vessels in the brain that is often correlated with chronic illnesses including hypertension, diabetes, multiple sclerosis or high blood pressure. In some cases chronic small vessel ischemic disease is correlated with symptoms such as tiny strokes, while other patients have no symptoms at all. It's often found in elderly adults, though not exclusively, and is often diagnosed during MRI scans for other conditions or symptoms.
The Baios have advocated to raise awareness for diseases before: After their daughter was misdiagnosed with glutaric acidemia type 1, a rare metabolic condition, the couple created the The Bailey Baio Angel Foundation to raise awareness and promote legislation to make screenings mandatory at birth. Renee has been vocal about her struggle with two brain tumors.
The Baios last made headlines in January and February, when former Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert accused Scott of sexual misconduct on the set of the show; she later filed a police report against him. Alexander Polinsky, another actor on the show, also alleged misconduct from the CBS star. Baio has denied all accusations of misconduct and his lawyer has called the accusations a "media witch hunt."
