JON FAVREAU To Produce, Write Live-Action STAR WARS TV Series
Jon Favreau has signed on to write/executive produce a new Star Wars series for Disney's planned streaming platform.
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you," Favreau said. "I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
Favreau has a history with the franchising, voicing a villain in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and an unspecified character in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story film.
“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
The debut of Favreau's Star Wars project has not been specified, but the Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger has previously said he anticipated the Disney platform to launch in late 2019. Iger previously said the studio had "a few" Star Wars TV projects in development for the upcoming app.
