A new independent film distribution venture called Dark Star Pictures is launching at the American Film Market. Founded by Breaking Glass Pictures executive Michael Repsch, the company will be looking to solidify a full 2018 release slate with finished films at this year's market, starting with the Thomas Middleditch comedy Entanglement.
"Dark Star Pictures is committed to bringing diversified and hyper-targeted content to a millennial focused audience in the digital age," stated Repsch. "Our goal is to bring auteur-driven, unique voices to North American audiences, films that challenge viewers while keeping them wanting more and most importantly starting conversations."
Entanglement will be Dark Star's first nationwide theatrical, VOD and digital release, slated for Feb. 9. The alternative romantic comedy premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival and stars Silicon Valley's Middleditch and Jess Weixler (Teeth, AMCs The Son). Dark Star negotiated the deal with Thunderbird Entertainment.
Other upcoming titles include the noir thriller Gutland, the political fantasy film All You Can Eat Buddha and the crime title The Queen of Hollywood Blvd, all of which Dark Star will be taking through festivals into 2018.
