Fangoria Acquires Original Screenplay ‘After Birth,’ an All-Female ‘Frankenstein’
Another film project on the horizon for the newly revived Fangoria, Deadline reports today, is After Birth, an original screenplay the company just acquired. Laura Moss and Brendan O’Brien wrote the script, with Moss set to make her feature directing debut.
It’s being described as an all-female adaptation of the Frankenstein myth.
“The film follows a morgue technician who successfully reanimates the body of a little girl, but to keep her breathing, she will need to harvest biological materials from pregnant women. When the girl’s mother, a nurse, discovers her baby alive, they enter into a deal that forces them both down a dark path of no return.”
“I couldn’t breathe for ten minutes after watching Laura’s short film FRY DAY,” producer Dallas Sonnier tells us. “I felt the exact same way reading the AFTER BIRTH script and knew I wanted to introduce this sophisticated filmmaker and her achingly scary story to our beloved Fangoria audience. Like me, they seek a certain level of pain in our movies in order to make us feel something.”
Mali Elfman will produce, along with Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk for Fangoria and Cinestate. Phil Nobile Jr. and Clay Neigher of Fangoria will executive produce.
